Tuition Increases #7

A college education is the most important things to have for our future. As a young adult we don’t have many opportunities to invest our money so our education is the best investment that we can do for our selves, and our parents and friends are proud of us for getting a college education and making something of our selves. The best of all, our parents don’t have to pay for our bills anymore and not live under their roof! For other people college is just another step in life and they don’t even have to worry about paying for school because daddy can pay for everything! But for some of us school becomes our hope; hope of one day being able to help our parents for working double shifts to pay for their kid’s school education. Not too long ago a college education wasn’t too bad, money wise, but now it’s extremely expensive! Especially for someone like me, when I have to pay for my own education and with tuition fee going sky high! It’s ridiculous and I’m extremely glad with the government stepping up for once and putting a cap on the tuitions! We are paying $1.500 more since 2003 and the number was just rolling up. In a market place that rarely takes someone without an education, it sure is getting harder to get one. It is good to have a cap such as the one being talked about right now so that universities don’t just start spending money in areas that aren’t necessary. Especially with the economy the way it is now. This is not the time to start building better rec centers or give raises. This is the time to take the money that is coming in at the moment and put it to good use in the areas that really need it.

abortion response

Abortion can be a very tricky subject, people feel passionately about their view towards it, and it makes it difficult for them to see the thoughts behind the different views. I personally don’t agree with abortion, because I think adoption is a better option rather than just killing the kid. However it’s the personal experience that could determine your view on the topic, especially for those that were raped, having to think of that scene for the next nine months, and knowing that a living human been is going to be a living memory of what happened to that person. We all know that the pregnancy rates on teenagers are increasing every day. Kids do make mistakes, they get drunk and high and have no clue what’s going on, and “somehow” they get pregnant and most of them are not able to afford a kid. However if abortion is legal, it will encourage them to just go around and do anything without having to deal with the consequences.

Car-free? not so much #4

To think that we could ever go car free in America scares me, just to talk about it, sure! Why not? Sounds good and everything, but if we were to go out in the streets and ask every American how would they feel about going car free? Unless if you live in New York or within walking distance to your job, or in one of the major cities in America which could actually be able to survive going car free that would be great! But here in Texas! Not so much, I personally use my car every single day, school is 30 minutes away, downtown is almost one hour, my job is about twenty, and I use a car for my job, so therefore I would loose my job if we go car-free, or it would take me a week to do stuff around the ranch. Some people actually do save money by going car free. I’m talking about not having to pay for gas, insurance, car expenses, maintenances and what not! But not every city has the benefit of the subways and everything else been in the one digit mile. As far as I’m concerned here in America we care too much for our values and belongings and a car here is not just used as transportation, but also as luxury! We could never go car-free here; we do not live in China where half of the people ride their bikes to work! Plus we are way too lazy for that. The Government could or should have passed some type of law regarding the number of cars per house and not house members. I sure do agree that we have way too many cars in one house, seriously drive around any neighborhood and almost every house there about 3 or 4 cars parked in the drive way, my house sure is one of them. Would we benefit by going car-free, I don’t think so, but would we benefit by reducing the number of cars by house? Oh yes! I don’t appreciate traffic and the number of cars everywhere.

The dream act! stage 5

Don’t we all just hate that all of the immigrants are taking our jobs and they are one of the main reasons why the united states is in major debt! They are just a bunch of uneducated criminals that are overcrowding our jails! Yeah, sure, there are a lot of those out there, but there are a lot of legal people doing the same, or even worse, why should the ones that actually come here to work and just go to school pay for what others do? If a child is brought into the country illegally there is no method of becoming a legal resident. Returning to their country of birth would not guarantee a path to legal status. Attempts to come back legally are often difficult, with roadblocks such as ten year ban on re-entering the U.S. which would cause even more issues, especially for those that have family here. They would do anything again to re-enter the U.S to see their family. Why should anyone that was brought to this country as a child, or even a young teenager be punished for something that they didn’t have a choice? Quite often families of immigrants come to the US to give their kids a better life, chance to live, and have what they couldn’t afford back at their home country. I don’t think that they should be treated as criminals for something that they didn’t even do. Some or most of those kids grow up with your kids sharing toys, a good laugh, or being best friends at some point in life. The only difference would be their culture, color, and how much money their parents make a year!
Almost everyone argues that if you weren't born here you should go back to where you came from! It is something that I hear almost everyday. We the people are entitled to our own opinion, but I would like for you to not just go off a simple assumption and become well informed. You should read and discover the foundations of our country. If we go back a few hundred years and look on the map we were actually part of Spain. What holds this country to the ground is the foreign policy. This country needs the support of immigrants and many people may act like it’s not true but it is. If we are going to send all the immigrants back then everyone would have to leave, except for the Native Americans of course. Even the person that founded America was from Geneva Italy! Yes I do agree that some illegal immigrants are criminals and drug dealers and what ever people call them, but last time I checked there are also white people, black people, Asians and Europeans in jail. Not all of them are criminals! We should definitely try to work something out and set some ground rules, we can’t lose control of what goes in and out of the country, and we need to give these people the opportunity to be better!
The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act aka the “Dream act” has been around for almost a decade, and this year it was introduced in the United States Senate, and the United States House of Representatives in March 26, 2009. One more time, what is the “dream act”? The dream act would provide certain immigrants the opportunity to earn permanent residency in the United states, they would have the right to go to school and work in the US for a temporary time, around six years, and on the time being the person would either have or must attend college and earn a two or four year degree, or serve the military forces for two years in order to earn a citizenship. Over 2.6 million kids that are illegal will graduate from high school this year, some will join the military forces and some just will get a job to help their family. On top of all that the student must have a clean record, and know English!

Stage 6 Response - Obesity

Laura you sure do have a great argument, and so does Alex from his comment. No one can argue against the fact that America is the number one country on high obesity rate. But I don’t think that the government is the one to be blame. We, the people, brought it upon our selves. Growing up in Brazil a country that prides it self in appearance and body image, it was shocking to see the number of overweight people, especially among children and teenagers. Should we blame the government or the parents for what their kids look like? Time did change; I remember back in the day when we spent most of the day outside, running around, playing some type of sport. We now have computers and video games too, which is insane to see the number of not just kids but adults over the age of 21 that plays video games in a daily basis for over hours! Sure there are McDonalds on every corner and fast food sure is cheaper than going to the grocery store and buying food to make a healthy meal. I grew up eating every type of vegetable and fruit, because my parents wanted to eat right. Why save a little money now by eating like crap. My parents took the responsibility of keeping us healthy themselves so I think that other parents should be held responsible for their children! Not the Government.

No return, we need to act!

The disease the spreads faster than a pague is killin thousands of people around the world, and what are we doing to prevent it? In 2006 The Center for Disease Control and prevention estimated that 56,ooo pleople just aroung the country were newly infected with H.I.V, imagine around the world, an estimated 1,051,875 people have been diagnosed with AIDS in America. Thats just rediculous, so today, right now at this moment there is more than one million people living around us with HIV, more than half a million die after developing AIDS. President Obama should make clrear to the people that AIDS kills, its not treatable, we spend millionson research, Magic Jonhson might look like he's doing great, he is, but he also has enough money to take care of him and make sure that he gets the best treatment out there, but what about the people that can hardly afford to buy food and shelter? we cant forget about that, i like this editorial and how the author is not hidding the reallity of it, HIV is affecting everyone in one way. The case of HIV is highly among the lower classes speacialy among African Americans and Latinos, An estimated 3,792 children under 13 were living with AIDS at the end of 2007. Thats not counting the people that dont even know that they have the virous. I am glad that a new campaign announced by the Obama administration to combat complacency about the disease and its potential to strike the unwary, we the people need to know that HIV is out there, and we need to keep informed. IT IS NOT TREATABLE, we must! make sure that the new government will spread the word. It will take time and alot of our tax dollars but if the Government dont act now the numbers will double overnight. When you get it its with you till you take your last breath, there's no return, we must act, the Government must act quick!

U.S. to Compare Medical Treatments

The $787 billion economic stimulus bill approved by Congress will, for the first time, provide substantial amounts of money for the federal government to compare the effectiveness of different treatments for the same illness. Spending on health care totaled $2.2 trillion or 16 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product in 2007. And if we don’t take care of this, it could rise to 25 percent, of the G.D.P. in 2025. Researchers often overlook the differences because their studies do not include enough women, blacks or Hispanics. “Some drugs appear to be more effective in women than in men, while other medicines are more likely to cause serious complications in women,” said Phyllis E. Greenberger.Under existing law, Medicare generally covers any treatment that is “reasonable and necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of illness or injury,” and the agency does not have clear legal authority to take costs into account when deciding whether to cover a particular treatment. This is an endless issue, and it will never be 100 percent solved, with the rise of treatments, our generation, my generation could be caught in this powerful monopoly. There’s no law out there to put a stable price, its only going up. If there’s alternative ways for someone to be treated for less, why not just come up with an average price, that even the low class citizens could afford?
